This Riviera Artica 2¾″ magnetic compass, model BA1, is a fixed marine compass for horizontal, flush-mount installation. This variant features a black housing, a black compass card with white 5° graduation, and rear reading. The compass is intended for both standard boats and high-speed vessels.
The internal semi-cardanic suspension stabilizes the compass card, while the built-in manual magnetic compensation allows for correcting interference from the vessel's installations. The anti-glare screen supports clear reading, and the white lubber line makes it easier to follow the chosen course.
The visible compass card has a diameter of 70 mm. The compass measures 134 mm across the outer flange and has a total height of 106 mm, 55 mm of which is above the mounting surface. The lower cylindrical section has a diameter of 82 mm.
Flush mounting requires a cutout of Ø108.5 mm. The three mounting holes are Ø2.5 mm, positioned at 120° intervals on a pitch circle of Ø120 mm. The installation location should be chosen as far as practically possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous objects. After installation, the compass must be compensated by a qualified professional.
The integrated blue LED night lighting is designed for 12 V. The compass liquid has a proven temperature range from −30 °C to +60 °C, and an elastic membrane compensates for liquid volume changes to prevent bubble formation within this range. The compass is normally delivered calibrated for magnetic zone A.
The Artica series is classified as Class B and can be ordered with an individual MED certificate at the time of purchase. The standard item is not documented as supplied with an individual certificate. The compass is manufactured in Italy, is repairable, and has a three-year manufacturer's warranty from the stamped date of manufacture.
Clean the compass with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. Filling plugs and other screws must not be loosened. Only the compensator screws may be adjusted, and this must be done using a non-magnetic screwdriver.
