This Riviera ARTICA compact front-reading magnetic compass is a liquid-damped BA1 model designed for flush mounting in a horizontal panel or console. This variant features a black housing, a black compass card, and integrated 12 V LED night lighting. The compass is intended for maritime navigation on both sailing and motor boats, including high-speed craft.
The visible compass card has a diameter of 70 mm and a clear scale with 5° graduations. Internal gimbaling stabilizes the compass card, while the liquid damping provides a steady reading. The compass also features a built-in manual compensator and an anti-reflective finish.
The compass has a maximum external width of 134 mm and an overall height of 106 mm. Installation requires a panel cutout of Ø82 mm and at least 55 mm of clearance depth below the mounting surface. As standard, the model is calibrated for magnetic zone A.
The LED lighting is connected to the boat's 12 V electrical system using two wires. Check the voltage before connection. The compass should be mounted as far as practically possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous objects. After installation, compensation should be performed by a qualified professional using a non-magnetic screwdriver.
The compass contains ShellSol D70 compass liquid with a proven temperature range of -30 °C to +60 °C. An elastic membrane compensates for volume changes in the liquid and prevents bubble formation within this range. Filling plugs and other screws must not be loosened; only the compensator screws are intended for adjustment.
The model is designed and manufactured in Genoa, Italy, and is repairable. Cleaning should be done with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. Repairs must be performed by Riviera to maintain safety and warranty conditions. The manufacturer's warranty is 3 years/36 months in accordance with the applicable warranty terms.
