This Riviera 4" high-speed compass with binnacle is model BU2/AV from the Urania 4" series. The magnetic marine compass is designed for fast motorboats and other vessels over 25 knots and features a black housing and a black compass card.
The visible compass card measures 100 mm and has 5° graduation, reverse reading, and a red lubber line. An internal gimbal system stabilizes the compass, while the built-in, manually adjustable compensation system allows for correction of magnetic deviation after installation. The anti-glare screen improves readability under varying light conditions.
The built-in blue LED lighting is designed for 12 V and enables reading in the dark. The compass fluid is Shell SolD/70, and an elastic membrane compensates for volume changes in the fluid. The construction is stable within the temperature range from −30 °C to +60 °C.
The compass is mounted with the binnacle on a horizontal surface and fastened through four mounting holes. Fastening screws are included. The mounting location should be placed as far as possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous parts. After installation, compass compensation should be performed by an authorized professional, and the vessel's supply voltage must be checked before connecting the lighting.
The product has an overall height of 176 mm, a base diameter of 157 mm, and an upper diameter of 150 mm. The Urania class B type is type-certified according to MED 2014/90/EU and homologated by Italian Ministerial Decree 588/2000. An individual MED certificate is not included as standard and must be ordered with the compass if required.
The compass is manufactured in Italy and designed to be repairable. It should be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. Filling plugs and sealing screws must not be opened, and the compensator screws must be adjusted with non-magnetic tools. A protective cover with Riviera part no. 62.00063.01 is available as documented accessory but is not included.
