Riviera IDRA compact marine compass with front reading is a magnetic steering compass designed for flush mounting in a horizontal panel or console. This BA1 variant features a blue compass card, a white housing, and blue 12 V LED night lighting. It is intended for navigation on sailboats and powerboats, including high-speed craft.
The visible compass card has a diameter of 70 mm and 5° graduations, allowing the heading to be read directly from the front. Internal semi-gimbal suspension stabilizes the compass system, while the anti-glare screen improves readability under varying light conditions. The built-in manual compensator allows for the correction of local magnetic deviation after installation.
The compass measures Ø134 mm across the flange and has a total height of 106 mm. The installation depth below the mounting plane is 55 mm, and the lower mounting housing has a diameter of 82 mm. Installation requires a Ø108.5 mm cutout and three Ø2.5 mm mounting holes spaced 120° apart on a Ø120 mm bolt circle.
The compass system is liquid-filled with Shell Sol D/70 and features an elastic membrane that compensates for volume changes in the fluid. The documented temperature range for the compass fluid is –30 °C to +60 °C. The compass is manufactured in Italy and designed to be repairable; repairs must be performed by the manufacturer for safety and warranty reasons.
During installation, the compass must be placed as far as practically possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous objects. Check the boat's supply voltage before connecting the two wires for the LED lighting. After mounting, the compass should be compensated by a qualified professional. The standard calibration is zone A.
Clean the housing with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. Filling plugs and other screws must not be loosened. Only the compensator screws may be adjusted, and this must be done using a non-magnetic screwdriver. The manufacturer's warranty is 36 months from the date of manufacture, subject to the limitations set out in the warranty terms.
