This RIVIERA 4″ bulkhead-mounted magnetic compass in the Polare series is model BP2 with a black housing and black compass card. It is designed for fixed, vertical, and recessed mounting on a bulkhead or instrument panel on boats, including high-speed boats.
The front-reading compass card has a visible diameter of 100 mm and a 5° graduation. A red lubber line allows for course reading, while the internal gimbal system stabilizes the compass during boat movement. An integrated inclinometer simultaneously displays the boat's heeling.
The compass features an anti-glare screen, manual compensation, and blue LED lighting for 12/24 V. The compensator screws are accessible through the lower transverse holes. The compass fluid is Shell Sol D/70, and an elastic diaphragm compensates for fluid volume changes within the temperature range of −30 °C to +60 °C.
The front has a maximum diameter of 162 mm, the rear housing measures 136 mm in diameter, and the total axial depth is 145 mm. Installation requires a panel cutout of Ø137 mm and four Ø2.5 mm mounting holes spaced at 90° intervals on a Ø146 mm bolt circle. The distance from the front to the mounting plane is 90 mm.
A rear cover and protective shield are included. During installation, remove the front cover and flange, then mount the compass according to the drill template. The mounting location must be kept as far as possible from magnetic fields, ferrous moving parts, and electrical equipment that could affect the course display. After installation, the compass should be compensated by a qualified professional.
The compass should be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. Filling plugs and other screws must not be loosened, and the compensator screws must be adjusted using a non-magnetic screwdriver. The Polare series is designed to be repairable, but repairs must be carried out by the manufacturer. The warranty period is 36 months from the manufacturing date stamped on the flange.
