This Riviera Urania 4" flush-mount compass, model BU1/AV, is a magnetic marine compass for high-speed boats traveling over 25 knots. It is intended for horizontal, flush mounting in an instrument panel, steering console, or similar flat surface and is recommended for boats up to 10.5 m.
The compass features a 100 mm visible compass card with 5° graduation, reverse reading, and a red lubber line. Internal gimbaling stabilizes the compass card during boat movement, while the anti-glare screen supports clear reading. The liquid-filled construction uses Shell Sol D/70 compass fluid, which is stable from −30 °C to +60 °C.
Built-in manual compensation allows for correcting magnetic deviation after installation. The compass is supplied with standard calibration for magnetic zone A. The mounting location should be chosen as far as possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous objects, and the final compensation should be performed by an authorized professional using a non-magnetic screwdriver.
The BU1/AV features blue LED lighting for 12 V. The boat's mains voltage must be checked before connection. The maximum outer diameter is 162 mm, the total height is 159 mm, and the bottom housing has a diameter of 136 mm. The recessed section measures 106 mm, while the required panel cutout is Ø137 mm. The mounting holes are Ø2.5 mm, and the model-specific drill template is used during installation.
The compass is manufactured and hand-assembled in Italy, is designed to be repairable, and comes with a 3-year warranty. Use a soft cloth dampened with fresh water for cleaning. Filling plugs and other screws must not be loosened; only the compensator screws are intended for adjustment.
