This Riviera Urania 4″ flush-mount compass with telescopic protective cover is a magnetic navigation compass for horizontal installation in instrument panels and other horizontal surfaces. The BU10 variant features a front-reading compass card, white housing, and black compass card with 5° graduations.
The 100 mm compass card has a red lubber line and built-in 12 V LED lighting, allowing the course to be read in both daylight and darkness. An internal gimbal system stabilizes the compass during the boat's movements, while the anti-glare screen reduces annoying reflections. The compass is suitable for motorboats and sailboats at both normal and high speeds exceeding 25 knots.
The integrated telescopic protective cover protects the compass when not in use. The compass has built-in manual magnetic compensation, and the compensator screws are accessible through the lower transverse openings. The compass liquid is Shell Sol D/70, and an elastic membrane compensates for volume changes in the liquid within the stability range of −30 °C to +60 °C.
The compass has a maximum outer diameter of 158 mm and a total height of 154 mm. The installation housing is Ø110 mm, while the depth below the mounting plane is 72 mm. Installation requires a panel cutout of Ø123 mm and two mounting holes of Ø2.5 mm with a center-to-center distance of 132.9 mm. The holes are positioned 12.75 mm below the horizontal center line.
When mounting, the compass must be aligned with the boat's longitudinal axis and placed as far as possible from magnetic fields, electrical equipment, and moving ferrous parts. The telescopic cover's flange should not be removed during installation. After mounting, the compass must be compensated by an authorized professional, and the voltage must be checked before connecting the LED wires to the boat's 12 V installation.
The compass is manufactured in Italy, geographically balanced for Zone A, and designed to be repairable. Cleaning should be done with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. Filling screws and plugs must not be loosened. The manufacturer's warranty is 3 years from the date of manufacture, provided proper installation and use.
