This Riviera Urania 4" flush-mount compass with telescopic protective cover is a liquid-filled magnetic marine compass for horizontal flush mounting. The BU8 variant features top reading, a white housing, and a blue, flat compass card with a visible diameter of 100 mm.
The compass has 5° graduations, a red lubber line, and integrated white 12 V LED lighting, allowing the course to be read in varying light conditions. The internal gimbal suspension stabilizes the compass system, while the anti-glare screen reduces distracting reflections. The model is intended for both motorboats and sailboats at normal speeds, as well as high-speed vessels exceeding 25 knots.
The built-in magnetic compensation allows for correction after installation. The compensator screws are operated with a non-magnetic screwdriver, and final compensation should be performed by a qualified professional. The compass is mounted horizontally in an instrument panel or console, and the model-specific mounting template is used for the cutout.

The compass contains Shell Sol D/70 compass fluid and an elastic membrane that compensates for volume changes in the fluid. The fluid is stable in the temperature range from -30 °C to +60 °C. The BU8 is handcrafted in Italy and designed to be repairable. Repairs must be performed by Riviera Srl Genova to maintain safety and warranty. The manufacturer's warranty is 36 months from the date of manufacture, which is stamped on the flange.
