This Riviera Urania 4″ flush-mount compass with telescopic protective cover is a liquid-filled magnetic marine compass for horizontal, flush mounting. The BU10 variant features a white housing, a blue front-reading card, and direct reading from the helm. The compass is designed for both normal speeds and high-speed use above 25 knots.
The visible compass card has a diameter of 100 mm and a 5° graduation. A red lubber line makes it easier to read the course, while internal gimbaling stabilizes the card during the boat's movements. Manual compensation adjustment is built-in, and the compass is supplied calibrated for magnetic zone A.
The integrated telescopic protective cover protects the compass when not in use and works in conjunction with the anti-glare screen. The built-in white 12 V LED lighting allows for reading in the dark. Check the boat's supply voltage before connecting the LED wires.
The compass has a maximum outer diameter of 158 mm and a total height of 154 mm. The installation depth below the mounting flange is 72 mm, and the lower installation housing has a diameter of 110 mm. Installation requires a cutout of Ø123 mm and two mounting holes of Ø2.5 mm with a center distance of 132.9 mm. The cover flange does not need to be removed during installation.
The mounting location should be chosen as far as possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous parts. After installation, the compass must be compensated by an authorized professional. The compass liquid is petroleum-based Shell Sol D/70, and an elastic membrane compensates for volume changes in the liquid within the temperature range of −30 °C to +60 °C.
The compass is manufactured in Italy and designed to be repairable. Cleaning is performed with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. Filling plugs and structural screws must not be loosened; only the compensator screws may be adjusted with a non-magnetic screwdriver. The warranty period is 3 years from the date of manufacture under the applicable warranty terms.
