Riviera Urania BU1 4″ flush-mount compass is a magnetic marine compass in the standard version for horizontal, flush mounting in an instrument panel or steering console. The visible compass card has a diameter of 100 mm and a scale graduation of 5°. The compass is intended for navigation in motorboats and sailboats up to 10.5 m.
The compass card is read from the rear against a clear red lubber line. An internal gimbal system keeps the compass stable during the boat's movements, while the built-in manual compensation setting makes it possible to correct for magnetic interference after installation. An anti-glare screen improves readability under changing light conditions.
The integrated 12 V LED lighting makes the compass usable in the dark. The compass bowl is made of nylon/fiberglass, and the spherical dome is made of polycarbonate. The compass liquid is stable from −30 °C to +60 °C, and an elastic membrane compensates for volume changes in the liquid to prevent bubble formation within the temperature range.
The maximum external width across the mounting flange is 162 mm, the total height is 168 mm, and the height below the mounting flange is 106 mm. The housing below the flange has an external diameter of 136 mm. Use the included custom-fit mounting template for cutting and drilling.
The compass is factory-balanced for Zone A in the Northern Hemisphere. The mounting location must be placed as far as practically possible from magnetic fields, moving ferrous parts, and other equipment that can affect the compass reading. Check the voltage before connecting the lighting, and perform final compensation after installation using a non-magnetic screwdriver. For vessels over 25 knots, a specific high-speed variant must be chosen.
The construction is repairable and hand-assembled in Italy. The compass comes with a 3-year warranty. For general maintenance, clean it with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. Sealed screws and filling plugs must not be loosened.
