Riviera White Star 5″ flush-mount compass BW1/AV is a magnetic steering compass developed for high-speed boats traveling over 25 knots. The compass features a black card with 5° graduations, white lubber lines, and a rear-reading display.
The internal gimbal suspension stabilizes the compass during vessel movement, while the built-in compensator allows for the correction of onboard magnetic interference. The apparent diameter of the compass card is 130 mm (5″), and the anti-glare dome supports clear reading from the steering position.
The BW1/AV is intended for horizontal flush mounting, for example in an instrument panel. The maximum external diameter is 180 mm, the total height is 182 mm, and the height from the top to the mounting surface is 115 mm. The recessed base requires a mounting hole with a diameter of 155 mm.
The compass has 24 V lighting for night reading. The BW1 design comprises a nylon and fiberglass compass bowl and a spherical polycarbonate dome. The housing and compass card are black, and the compass is manufactured in Italy.
The White Star 5″ series is recommended for vessels up to 14 m and is type-approved according to Italian Ministerial Decree 388 of September 29, 1999. The BW1 type is covered by RINA EC type-approval MED151722CS/005, but this variant is not supplied with an individual RINA or MED certificate. The compass is designed to be repairable, and the manufacturer's warranty is 3 years.
