Riviera White Star 6″ flush-mount compass for sailboats B6W3 is a liquid-filled magnetic navigation compass for horizontal, flush-mounted installation. The model features a visible, flat 150 mm compass card with 5° graduation and rear reading with a red lubber line. It is designed for sailboats and is recommended for boats over 14 meters.
The compass features an internal gimbal system, anti-glare screen, and built-in manual compensation. The compass liquid is Shell Sol D/70 and is managed by an elastic membrane that compensates for liquid volume changes. The documented temperature range for the compass liquid is from −30 °C to +60 °C.
The built-in LED lighting is designed for 24 V and has a blue light color. The boat's mains voltage must be checked before connection. The compass should be positioned as far as possible from magnetic fields, moving ferrous parts, and electrical or electronic equipment that may affect the reading.
The compass has an outer top diameter of 220 mm and a total height of 230 mm. The depth below the mounting plane is 140 mm, while the lower housing has a diameter of 167 mm. The model-specific drilling template specifies a cutout of Ø165 mm as well as four Ø2 mm pilot holes on a bolt hole circle of Ø211 mm. As housing diameter and cutout dimensions are specified differently, the drilling template should always be checked directly before cutting.
After installation, the compass must be compensated by an authorized professional. The compensation screws are reached through the lower transverse holes and must be adjusted with a non-magnetic screwdriver. The built-in compensation can correct magnetic deviation from the installation, but not incorrect geographical zone balancing.
The White Star 6″ is hand-assembled in Italy and has a repairable construction. Cleaning is performed with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water, while repairs must be carried out by Riviera to maintain safety and warranty terms. The warranty period is 36 months from the production date on the flange. The compass type is type-certified according to MED 2014/90/EU; an individual MED certificate must be ordered together with the compass.
