This Riviera White Star BW2 5″ pedestal-mount magnetic compass is a liquid-filled marine magnetic compass in standard black finish for permanent mounting on deck or another flat surface. The visible compass card has a diameter of 130 mm, 5° graduations, and rear-reading.
The internal gimbal suspension stabilizes the compass system when the vessel is in motion. The compass features built-in compensator magnets for manual correction, a white lubber line, and an anti-glare hood. The compass card is black with white graduations and can be removed from the pedestal for installation and service.
The built-in blue LED lighting is powered by 24 V and makes the compass readable when sailing in the dark. The compass liquid is Shell Sol D/70, and an elastic membrane absorbs the liquid's volume changes. The documented stable temperature range is −30 °C to +60 °C.
The BW2 measures 188 mm in total height. The maximum diameter at the pedestal is 181 mm, while the upper diameter is 169 mm. The pedestal is secured through four mounting holes using the included screws. After installation, the compensation should be carried out professionally and checked again after significant changes to the boat's electrical or metallic installations.
The compass can be used on sailboats and motorboats and is recommended for vessels up to 14 m. The BW2 series is intended for recreational and commercial vessels up to 150 tons. The mounting location must be chosen as far as possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous objects that may affect the reading.
The model is manufactured in Italy, covered by a 3-year manufacturer's warranty, and designed to be fully repairable. The manufacturer number for this black BW2 standard variant with 5° graduations is 62.00025.01. This standard variant is not supplied with an individual RINA test certificate.
