This Riviera Zenith 3″ flush-mount compass with protective cover is a liquid-filled magnetic steering compass for horizontal, flush mounting in a boat's dashboard or console. The BZ1 model features a flat blue compass card, a white housing, and is suitable for both normal speed boats and high-speed craft exceeding 25 knots.
The visible compass card has a diameter of 80 mm and a graduation of 5°. An internal gimbal system stabilizes the compass during the boat's movement, while the built-in manual magnetic compensation allows for the correction of interference from the installation. The compass is filled with petroleum-based Shell Sol D/70 liquid.
The blue 12 V LED lighting makes the compass card readable in the dark. The integrated, wraparound cover protects the compass and also acts as an anti-glare screen, reducing annoying reflections when reading.
The compass has a maximum external diameter of 152 mm, a total height of 131 mm, and a depth of 65 mm below the mounting surface. The lower flush-mount housing is Ø89 mm, while the main cutout must be Ø95 mm. The official drilling template also shows three Ø3 mm holes, one Ø2.5 mm hole, and a side cutout of 9 × 12.5 mm. The included drilling template should always be used during installation.
The compass must be mounted as far as practically possible from magnetic fields and moving iron objects. After installation, magnetic compensation must be performed by a qualified professional. An elastic membrane compensates for volume changes in the liquid and prevents bubble formation within the temperature range of −30 °C to +60 °C.
The BZ1 model is covered by RINA EC type examination as a Class B magnetic compass. An individual MED certificate is not documented as part of the standard delivery and must therefore be clarified separately if required. The compass is manufactured in Italy and can be repaired at Riviera. Cleaning should be done with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water; filling plugs and other screws must not be loosened. The warranty period is 36 months from the manufacturing date according to the applicable warranty terms.
