Riviera Zenith 3″ flush-mount compass with telescopic protective cover is a magnetic marine compass for horizontal flush mounting in a dashboard or console. This AV variant features a front-reading blue compass card, a white housing, and 12 V lighting. The compass is designed for both standard and high-speed boats, including vessels with speeds exceeding 25 knots.
The front-reading compass card has a visible diameter of 80 mm and a graduation of 5°. A red lubber line makes it easier to read the current heading. The built-in manual magnetic compensation is used to correct for interference from the vessel's local magnetic fields, while the telescopic cover both protects the compass and acts as an anti-glare shield.
The compass has a maximum external diameter of 152 mm with the cover, a total height of 131 mm, and an installation depth of 65 mm below the mounting surface. The diameter of the lower cylindrical housing is 89 mm. The mounting template indicates a panel cutout of Ø95 mm, a Ø3 mm cable hole for the lighting, as well as mounting holes of Ø2.5 and Ø3 mm. The cutout also includes a notch of 9 × 12.5 mm.
The mounting location must be placed as far as practically possible from magnetic fields and movable ferrous objects. After installation, the compass must be checked and compensated by a qualified professional. The compensator screws are adjusted using a non-magnetic screwdriver; filler plugs and other screws must not be loosened.
The compass is liquid-filled with Shell Sol D/70. An elastic membrane compensates for liquid volume changes and prevents bubble formation within the temperature range of −30 °C to +60 °C. Standard balancing is for zone A in the Northern Hemisphere. The compass is manufactured in Italy, designed to be repairable, and should be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. The warranty period is 36 months from the production date under the applicable warranty terms.
The Zenith type class B is type-approved in accordance with MED 2014/90/EU. An individual MED certificate must be ordered together with the compass and cannot be issued after delivery.
