This Riviera Zenith 3" marine compass, model BH2, is a bracket-mounted magnetic steering compass for course indication on board sailboats and motorboats. It is the standard version with a black front-reading compass card, black housing, and a visible card diameter of 80 mm. The series is recommended for boats up to 8 meters.
The compass card has 5° graduations, numerical indicators every 30°, and a red lubber line, which supports clear direct reading from the steering position. The integrated blue LED lighting is powered by 12 V and allows for course reading in the dark. The boat's voltage must be checked before connecting the lighting.
The compass is mounted in the included bracket and can be positioned on horizontal, inclined, or vertical surfaces. The internal gimbal suspension stabilizes the compass, while the built-in manual compensation allows for correction of local magnetic interference. The compass also features an anti-glare screen. The overall dimensions are 155 mm in width and 147 mm in height.
During installation, the compass should be placed as far as practically possible from electrical equipment, magnetic fields, and moving ferrous objects. After installation, the compensation should be performed by a qualified professional. This variant is calibrated for magnetic zone A.
The compass contains the petroleum-based compass fluid Shell Sol D/70. An elastic membrane compensates for the fluid's volume changes and prevents bubble formation within the fluid's stable temperature range of -30 °C to +60 °C. The filler plugs must not be loosened; only the compensator screws may be adjusted with a non-magnetic screwdriver.
The Zenith compass is hand-assembled in Italy and has a fully repairable construction. It is type-approved according to Italian Ministerial Decree no. 388 of September 29, 1999. MED certification according to 2014/90/EU can be ordered along with the compass, but an individual certificate is not included automatically. The warranty is 3 years, equivalent to 36 months from the stated production date. Cleaning should be performed with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water.
