This Riviera Zenith 3″ flush-mount magnetic compass, model BZ1/AVB, is a high-speed steering compass for maritime heading indication. This variant features a blue flat card, white housing, and 12 V LED lighting. The visible compass card has a diameter of 80 mm and a 5° graduation.
The compass is designed for horizontal, flush-mount installation in a dashboard, console, or other suitable horizontal surface. The flat compass card is read from above, while the internal gimbal system stabilizes the reading during the boat's movement. An integrated anti-glare screen improves readability under changing light conditions.
The housing has a maximum outer diameter of 139 mm over the flange and a total height of 121 mm. The height above the mounting surface is 65 mm, and the lower cylindrical recessed part has a diameter of 89 mm. The correct cutout must be made according to the included model-specific drill template; the 89 mm diameter must not be used as the final cutout dimension without verifying with the template.
The high-speed design is intended for boat navigation and is recommended for hulls up to 8 m. The lighting connects to a 12 V system. The mounting location should be as far as possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous objects, as these can affect the compass reading.
The compass has built-in manual compensation and is calibrated as standard for compass zone A. After installation, compensation should be performed by a qualified professional. The model is approved according to the Italian DM 388 of September 29, 1999, and belongs to a MED 2014/90/EU-certified compass type; an individual MED certificate must be ordered with the product if required.
The construction is repairable, but repairs must be carried out by Riviera to maintain safety and warranty. The manufacturer's warranty is 3 years. For routine maintenance, clean the compass with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water.
