EXCHANGE OF THE ROPEWORK
When sailing under sail, there are a wide range of lines and trim systems that must be able to handle the sail optimally. Here, gearing and aids must be carefully coordinated so that you can haul quickly enough and with the right force. When you make gearing on a rope, it is like adding gearing. Each time you add extra gearing, it becomes easier to haul, but you have to pull correspondingly longer to get the same effect as before.
EXCHANGE ON LARGE LOT
A mainsheet is used to control the boom of the mainsail. There are many ways to do this, but on smaller boats you will most often see a so-called triple block at each end. One on the boom and one on the deck or gangway in the boat. The lower one has frog legs on it so that the rope can be locked.
OTHER EXCHANGES
Other places where you often use gears are on the stern post or on the kickstand. Here again it depends on what fittings you have available and what force is required.
