Scanstrut vertical cable seal in 316 stainless steel model DS16-S is a watertight cable seal for surface mounting through decks, roofs, panels, and similar surfaces above the waterline. It is designed for a single cable with a diameter of 2–8 mm and can be routed over an already installed connector with a diameter of up to 16 mm.
The slotted, conical sealing insert is fitted around the cable, so the end connector does not need to be removed first. The package includes four sealing inserts: three pre-drilled inserts of 3, 4, and 7 mm respectively, and one blank insert that can be drilled to the desired cable diameter. This provides flexibility when installing antenna, navigation light, instrument, and other electronic cables.
The dome-shaped top is manufactured from marine-grade 316 stainless steel and has a low, rounded profile without sharp edges. The design protects the cable entry and reduces the risk of lines or ropes snagging. The fasteners are also made of 316 stainless steel, while a watertight 3M base gasket seals against the mounting surface. The materials are UV-stable and designed for outdoor and maritime use.
The cable seal has an external dome diameter of 39 mm, a base diameter of 36.5 mm, and a height of 19 mm above the mounting surface. Installation requires a 16 mm through-hole as well as three mounting holes. The captive nuts and threaded connections make it possible to disassemble and re-install the cable seal repeatedly.
For soft substrates such as plywood, a recommended pilot hole of 2 mm is used, while fiberglass, acrylic, and hard wood require 2.5 mm. The package includes three No. 4 × 16 self-tapping mounting screws and three M3 × 10 assembly bolts. Silicone may be used at the mounting surface, but no sealant is required on the rubber insert itself.
If the blank insert needs to be customized, it can be frozen to approximately −18 °C before drilling. The hole is drilled 1–2 mm larger than the cable diameter; after thawing, the insert shrinks tightly around the cable. The cable seal is supplied as one complete unit in a blister pack and is covered by a three-year warranty.
