This vertical 316 stainless steel cable seal from Scanstrut is model DS21A-S for watertight routing of a single cable with an outer diameter of Ø 4–9 mm through a deck, roof, or other mounting surface. It is designed for vertical cable entry above the waterline and has an IP68 ingress protection rating.
The design allows a cable with an already attached connector to be routed through the surface without cutting the cable or removing the connector. The seal accepts connectors with a diameter of up to Ø 21 mm. The split cable seals can be installed around the cable, while a blank seal allows for individual customization to the cable diameter.
The dome-shaped cover is manufactured from marine-grade AISI 316 stainless steel. The rounded profile with no sharp edges protects the structure from impacts and reduces the risk of lines snagging. The materials are corrosion-resistant and UV-stable for use in maritime and outdoor environments.
The seal consists of a tapered inner gasket and a watertight 3M base gasket. Four cable seals are included: one with a Ø 4 mm hole, one with a Ø 5 mm hole, one with a Ø 7 mm hole, and one blank seal for individual drilling. The blank seal can be frozen before drilling, and the drill hole should be made approximately 1–2 mm larger than the cable diameter. No sealant should be applied directly to the cable seal.
The seal is surface-mounted via three mounting points and requires a Ø 21 mm clearance hole. The base diameter is Ø 45.7 mm, the cover's maximum outer diameter is Ø 49 mm, and the height above the mounting surface is 20.5 mm. Captive nuts in the base facilitate installation as well as repeated removal and reinstallation. Three No. 6 × 16 self-tapping screws and three M4 × 10 screws for assembling the housing and base are included.
For installation, Ø 2.5 mm pilot holes are recommended in soft materials such as plywood and Ø 3 mm pilot holes in hard materials such as acrylic or hardwood. The cable seal must not be installed below the waterline. The product comes with a 3-year manufacturer's warranty.
