This Scanstrut Low Profile cable seal is a watertight low-profile model in polished 316 stainless steel for routing a single round cable with a diameter of 9–14 mm. It can route a pre-fitted connector with a diameter of up to 21 mm through a deck, roof, bulkhead, or other mounting surface without first removing the connector from the cable.
The cable seal has an IP68 rating and a visible mounting height of only 6.5 mm. Most of the sealing technology is positioned below the mounting surface, providing a discreet installation. The external diameter is 60.7 mm, and installation requires a center hole of Ø 32 mm. The model can be mounted on both horizontal and vertical surfaces.
A tapered cable seal and a closed-cell base gasket form a 100% watertight cable passage. The construction is UV-resistant and intended for demanding maritime and outdoor environments. The polished 316 stainless steel provides high corrosion resistance and is suitable for, among other things, cables from radar equipment, solar panels, light bars, lamps, and other deck- or roof-mounted electronics.
Four split cable seals are included: one with a Ø 9 mm hole, one with a Ø 11 mm hole, one with a Ø 13 mm hole, and one blank seal that can be customized to the cable. The split seals make it possible to install the seal around an existing cable with a pre-fitted connector. Choose a seal as close as possible to the cable diameter. When customizing the blank seal, use a drill or cutter size approximately the cable diameter plus 1.5 mm, while maintaining at least 3.5 mm of material toward the edge.
The base is secured at three points, and threaded connections with captive nuts support repeated disassembly and reassembly. The package contains a top, base, four cable seals, a base gasket, three No. 6 × 19 mm screws, and three M4 × 6 mm countersunk bolts. For soft materials such as plywood, use Ø 2.5 mm pilot holes, while fiberglass, hardwood, and acrylic require Ø 3 mm pilot holes. When mounting in metal, use Ø 4 mm holes and separate M4 countersunk bolts longer than 12 mm with washers and Nyloc nuts; these metal fasteners are not included.
The cable seal and base gasket form the seal without the need for traditional marine sealant around the seal itself. Silicone may still be necessary at screw penetrations and the base as indicated in the installation instructions. The model is part of Scanstrut's SCA test program, which includes salt spray testing, 316 stainless steel material verification, accelerated UV testing, IP testing, and mechanical analysis. The product warranty is 3 years.
