This Scanstrut Low Profile cable seal, model DS-LP-30-S, creates an IP68-rated seal around a single cable with a diameter of 9–14 mm. The design allows for the routing of a pre-fitted connector or cable terminal with a diameter of up to 30 mm.
The split, tapered inner seal can be fitted around the cable, meaning that the connector usually does not need to be removed or cut off. Four inner seals are included: three pre-drilled inserts of Ø 9, Ø 11, and Ø 13 mm, as well as one blank insert that can be drilled to the required cable diameter. When drilling the blank insert, use a drill diameter approximately 1.5 mm larger than the cable diameter, while ensuring the product's approved cable range remains Ø 9–14 mm.
The top cap is manufactured from marine-grade 316 stainless steel with a silver, polished finish. The cable seal has an external diameter of 75.6 mm and a visible profile height of only 6.5 mm. A significant part of the sealing mechanism is positioned below the mounting surface, which reduces the mounting height by 68% compared to the DS30-P. The design is UV-resistant and intended for corrosive maritime and outdoor environments.
Installation requires a main hole of Ø 44 mm and can be performed both vertically and horizontally. For the included No. 6 screws, a Ø 2.5 mm pilot hole is recommended in soft materials such as plywood, and Ø 3 mm in fiberglass, hardwood, or acrylic. When mounting in metal, use Ø 4 mm holes and M4 countersunk bolts longer than 12 mm with washers and Nyloc nuts; these additional parts are not included.
The seal around the cable is established with the tapered insert and a closed-cell foam base gasket. Captive nuts and threaded holes make it easier to disassemble and reassemble the seal for service or changes to the installation. The primary cable seal is gasket-based, while silicone may be relevant around the mounting screws depending on installation conditions.
The cable seal is suitable for cables from equipment such as radar, solar panels, light bars, lighting, and electronics on roofs or superstructures. The delivery includes the top part, bottom part, four inner seals, base gasket, four No. 6 × 19 mm screws, and four M4 × 6 mm countersunk bolts. The product has a 3-year warranty.
