This Scanstrut Low Profile cable seal, model DS-LP-21B-BLK, creates a watertight passage for a single cable with a diameter of 9–14 mm. It is manufactured from black anodised marine-grade aluminium and is intended for maritime and other outdoor cable installations where a low and discreet profile is important.
The split seal design allows for a cable with an already attached connector or terminal to be routed through the mounting surface. The cable connector may have a diameter of up to 21 mm. The product is supplied with pre-drilled seals for cables of Ø 9, Ø 11, and Ø 13 mm, as well as one undrilled seal that can be customised to the actual cable diameter.
The cable seal has an IP68 ingress protection rating and provides a 100% watertight main seal when installed correctly. The closed-cell base gasket means that no marine sealant is required around the cable seal itself. Local sealing at the screw holes may be relevant, however, depending on the surface and mounting method. The design is also UV-resistant, impact-resistant, and corrosion-resistant.
The low-profile design places part of the sealing mechanism below the mounting surface. The visible height is only 6.5 mm, and the mounting height is reduced by 68% compared to the standard DS21B-P-BLK model. The outer diameter is 60.7 mm, and the installation requires a central mounting hole of Ø 32 mm. The cable seal can be mounted on both horizontal and vertical surfaces.
Threaded holes and captive nuts allow the cable seal to be removed and re-installed repeatedly. When mounting in soft materials such as plywood, Ø 2.5 mm pilot holes are recommended, while hard materials such as fibreglass, hardwood, and acrylic require Ø 3 mm pilot holes. For metal, use Ø 4 mm mounting holes and suitable M4 bolts with washers and lock nuts.
The delivery includes a top part, base part, four seals, closed-cell base gasket, three No. 6 × 19 mm screws, and three M4 × 6 mm countersunk bolts. The product is suitable for cables from equipment such as marine electronics, solar panels, outdoor lighting, and other devices that require a tight passage through a mounting surface. The manufacturer's warranty is 3 years.
