This Scanstrut Horizontal Cable Seal, model DS-HD6-BLK, is designed for the watertight, horizontal routing of two cables with an outer diameter of 5 or 6 mm through a deck, roof, or another solid mounting surface. The black, low-profile design is particularly suitable for solar panel cables and installations with limited space.
The housing is made of glass-filled nylon and features an impact-resistant, UV-stable, and wear-resistant construction for marine use. The fasteners are made of AISI 316 stainless steel, while a watertight 3M base seal provides a seal between the cable gland and the mounting surface. The design is IP68-rated.
The cable gland measures 63 mm in length, 54 mm in width, and 22 mm in height. Installation requires a central 25 mm diameter hole and four mounting holes. The cables are routed through the mounting surface and horizontally out through the two sealing inserts.
Two blank, self-customizable sealing inserts, two inserts for 5 mm cables, and two inserts for 6 mm cables are included. This allows for the installation of two 5 mm cables, two 6 mm cables, or one cable of each size. The cable inserts are installed without sealant, while silicone is used for the screw fastenings.
For installation in plywood, a 2.5 mm pilot hole is recommended, while fiberglass, hardwood, and acrylic require a 3 mm pilot hole with the included No. 6 screws. When mounting in steel or aluminum, drill 3 mm holes and use M3 countersunk bolts over 12 mm with washers and Nyloc nuts; these metal fasteners are not included. Captive nuts facilitate both assembly and later disassembly.
The delivery includes a top, base, base seal, one black M5 × 10 bolt, four No. 6 × 16 self-tapping screws, and six sealing inserts. The product is covered by a 3-year warranty and can be used on boats, motorhomes, and other vehicles where two compatible cables must be routed through a solid surface.
