This Scanstrut Ventura Anderson SB50 50 A solar connection is a fixed, panel-mount DC connection for connecting solar panels, battery charging, and other high DC loads. It is developed for boats, motorhomes, campervans, and off-road vehicles and utilizes a red Anderson SB50 interface.
The connection is designed for system voltages up to 48 V DC and a nominal current of 50 A. The maximum power transfer is 600 W at 12 V, 1,200 W at 24 V, and 2,400 W at 48 V. The connector component itself has a maximum voltage rating of 600 V DC, but the product's documented range of application is DC systems for marine and motorhome use up to 48 V DC. A load of 50 A assumes properly dimensioned 6 AWG cable.
The UV-resistant housing is manufactured from PA plastic with nickel-plated copper contacts and AISI 316 stainless steel screws. A spring-loaded click lid protects the connection when not in use and can be held at approximately 90° during connection. When correctly mounted on a flat, smooth, and non-porous surface, the front is rated IP68 and IP69K when the lid is fully closed. The product must not be mounted where it may become fully or partially submerged.
The stated product dimensions are 68 × 60 × 64 mm. The front measures 60.3 mm in width and 68 mm in height with the lid closed, while the rearward installation depth is 39 mm. The mounting holes have a center distance of 44 mm horizontally and 40 mm vertically. The cutout is made using two Ø25.4 mm holes and the corresponding cutout between the holes. 122 mm of vertical space must be allocated so the lid can be opened fully.
Four No. 6 mounting screws are included. For through-mounting, M4 bolts with washers and Nyloc nuts can be used; these are not included. The mounting screws must be sealed with silicone or a suitable vehicle sealant and must not be overtightened. The product must not be mounted in engine compartments, flammable atmospheres, or areas with a risk of submersion. The power supply, charge controller, and battery system must be disconnected during installation, and polarity must be checked before connection.
The connection must only be used with original red Anderson SB50 connectors. Crimp terminals are not included. Suitable Anderson Power terminals include 5900 for 6 AWG/16 mm², 5952 for 8 AWG/10 mm², and 5915 for 12–10 AWG/4–6 mm². Cable cross-section, fuse, and circuit breaker must be dimensioned according to current, cable length, and acceptable voltage drop. The product is CE and RoHS compliant, complies with EN 61984:2009 along with IEC 61984:2008, and has a three-year non-transferable product warranty.
