This Scanstrut Ventura SAE solar deck seal, model SC-V-S2, is an external, panel-mount connector for solar panels and other SAE-based DC connections. It can be used in boats, motorhomes, campervans, caravans, and similar vehicles with DC systems of up to 24 V.
The connector is rated for a maximum of 20 A and can transfer up to 240 W at 12 V or 480 W at 24 V. The integrated cable is 150 mm long and features tinned copper conductors with a cross-section of 4 mm² (12 AWG). The red conductor is positive, and the black conductor is negative. SAE connections can sometimes feature reversed polarity, so polarity should always be checked before connection.
The housing is manufactured from UV-resistant PA plastic with marine-grade 316 stainless steel components. The spring-loaded click-shut lid has a detent at approximately 90° and protects the front of the product after use. With the lid fully closed, the front is rated to IP68 and IP69K when the unit is correctly mounted on a flat, smooth, and non-porous surface, ensuring the integrated gasket is compressed correctly.
The front plate measures 60.3 mm in width and 68.0 mm in height. The protrusion in front of the mounting surface is 16.0 mm with the lid closed, while the rear portion is 27.5 mm up to the cable area. The height is 119.0 mm with the lid fully open, and 122 mm of vertical space must be allocated for installation and operation.
Panel mounting is performed with two Ø25.4 mm through-holes and four mounting holes for No. 6 screws. The center distance between screw holes is 44 mm horizontally and 40 mm vertically. The unit is supplied with four No. 6 mounting screws. Suitable sealant must be used at the screws, and the screws must not be overtightened. For through-mounting, M4 pan-head bolts with washers and Nyloc nuts can be used; these parts are not included.
The connector must be connected to a properly sized solar charge controller or battery system with appropriate fusing and electrical disconnection capability. It must not be mounted in engine compartments, flammable atmospheres, or areas at risk of full or partial submersion. The lid must be kept closed when the connection is not in use, and installation should be performed by a qualified electrician. The product is CE and RoHS compliant and meets EN 61984:2009 in conjunction with IEC 61984:2008.
