This Scanstrut vertical cable seal in grey plastic is the DS40-P model for the watertight passage of one cable through a deck, roof, or any other mounting surface above the waterline. It is designed for cables with an outside diameter of 12–15 mm and can accommodate a pre-fitted plug or connector with a diameter of up to 40 mm.
The split, conical sealing insert is mounted around the cable, so the end connector does not need to be removed first. Included are both a pre-drilled insert for a Ø 12 mm cable and a blank, drillable insert that can be customized to the specific cable diameter. The closed-cell 3M gasket seals between the base and the mounting surface.
The housing is manufactured from impact-resistant, UV-stabilized, marine-grade plastic. The rounded, dome-shaped profile has no sharp edges, which reduces the risk of lines snagging and protects the cable passage from impact. Fasteners are made of AISI 316 stainless steel, and the ingress protection rating is IP68.
The cable seal has a maximum outer diameter of 69 mm, a diameter of 66 mm at the base underside, and a mounted height of 21.7 mm. Installation requires a Ø 40 mm clearance hole. Ø 2.5 mm pilot holes are recommended for soft materials such as plywood, and Ø 3 mm for hard materials such as fiberglass, acrylic, and hardwood.
Captive nuts in the base allow the housing to be disassembled and re-mounted repeatedly. The package contains the housing, base, gasket, four No. 6 × 16 self-tapping screws, and four M4 × 10 bolts. When using the blank insert, it can be frozen before drilling; the hole should be sized approximately 1–2 mm larger than the cable diameter. Sealant is applied to the base according to the installation instructions, but not directly onto the cable insert. The product is covered by a 3-year warranty.
