Scanstrut vertical cable seal in black plastic is a watertight cable seal for vertical routing of one cable with a diameter of 12–15 mm. The design allows the passage of a pre-attached connector with a diameter of up to 40 mm, meaning the connector does not need to be removed during installation. The seal has an IPX7 ingress protection rating.
The dome-shaped top is manufactured from impact-resistant, UV-stable, and durable marine-grade plastic. The rounded profile, free of sharp edges, increases impact strength, protects the cable entry from water, and reduces the risk of lines or other equipment snagging. The top cap has an external diameter of 69 mm, the base diameter is 66 mm, and the height above the mounting surface is 21.7 mm.
The seal is supplied with a pre-drilled Ø12 mm sealing insert and a solid insert that can be drilled to fit the cable dimensions. The split insert is installed around the cable and does not require sealant around the insert itself. Captive nuts in the base facilitate assembly and allow the seal to be removed and reinstalled multiple times.
Mounting is performed on a surface or deck above the waterline with vertical cable entry. The installation hole is drilled using a Ø40 mm hole saw. For the self-tapping screws, 2.5 mm pilot holes are recommended in soft materials like plywood, and 3 mm pilot holes in hard materials like fiberglass, acrylic, and hardwood. Silicone is used at the base mounting points, while the base's watertight, closed-cell 3M gasket seals against the mounting surface.
The solid insert can be customized by first freezing it and then drilling a hole approximately 1–2 mm larger than the cable diameter. The cable seal is suitable for marine electronics and other electrical equipment, including cables for solar panels and light bars, when installed above the waterline.
The kit contains a top cap, base, base gasket, two sealing inserts, four self-tapping no. 6 × 16 screws, and M4 × 10 machine screws. The product is supplied individually packaged in display blister packs and comes with a 3-year warranty.
