Service kit for self-inflating life jackets with 33 g CO₂ cylinder and UML-5 activator. The kit is intended for rearming compatible automatic life jackets in the 150 N class after inflation or for replacing the activation components.
The UML-5 system activates automatically upon contact with water. A water-sensitive element releases a spring-loaded mechanism that punctures the CO₂ cylinder and initiates inflation. The system also features a manual pull cord as a backup. Normal automatic activation occurs approximately three seconds after immersion.
The activator has separate indicators for the automatic and manual functions. Both indicators must show green before the life jacket is ready for use. A red or missing indicator means that the system must be checked or rearmed. The UML-5 activator component is approved according to ISO 12402-7.
Compatibility
The kit is intended for automatic self-inflating life jackets in the 150 N class that use the UML-5 activator and a 33 g CO₂ cylinder. Documented compatibility includes MK150 22.298.13, 1MAD 22.296.04, SAIL 22.396.04, as well as life jackets 22.398.06 and 22.398.08. The product must not be selected based solely on the nominal buoyancy of the life jacket; the activator type, cylinder size, thread, and the life jacket manufacturer's instructions must match.
Rearming and inspection
The life jacket must be dry before rearming. The used automatic cartridge and the punctured cylinder are removed, after which the new cartridge and cylinder are installed and tightened by hand. Check that the cylinder closure is intact, that the CO₂ seal is positioned correctly, and that both status indicators are green. Then, pack the life jacket according to the manufacturer's instructions.
The CO₂ cylinder should be checked for punctures and correct tightening before use. The automatic cartridge must be within the printed expiry date. For leisure use, it is recommended to replace the UML-5 cartridge every two years from the end-user's date of purchase or before the printed date, whichever comes first. For professional use, annual replacement is recommended. The life jacket manufacturer's service requirements always take precedence.
