This aluminum Duoprop propeller set from Solas is a complete B3 combination for Volvo Penta DP 280/290. The set consists of a front and a rear propeller that rotate in opposite directions and is intended for both petrol and diesel engines.
The front propeller has three blades, left-hand rotation, and 27 splines. The rear propeller has four blades, right-hand rotation, and 19 splines. Both propellers feature a thin blade profile and rubber hub. The documented Solas combination is manufacturer no. 8512-155-17 for the front and 8513-138-17 for the rear.
The front propeller has a diameter of 15.5" and a pitch of 17". The rear propeller has a diameter of 13.75" and the same pitch of 17". B3 is a combination code for the matched propeller pair and should therefore not be perceived as a single shared diameter or pitch measurement.
The propeller set fits Volvo Penta DP280 and DP290 drives with 27 splines on the front shaft and 19 splines on the rear shaft. Type B is intended for petrol engines and diesel engines up to 230 hp. At speeds over 35 knots, a stainless steel Type C propeller set is recommended over the aluminum Type B; this is an application recommendation and not a mechanical maximum speed.
The front and rear propellers must be mounted as the correct, matched B3 combination. Propellers from different types or size codes must not be mixed. Installation may require special tools, and original Volvo Penta mounting hardware as well as the tightening torque from the drive's service manual must be used. Propeller cone kit 872614 is intended for a 16 mm shaft, while 872549 is intended for a 20 mm shaft; select based on the actual shaft design. The cone kits are not documented as included.
OEM and spare parts references
The complete B3 combination corresponds to Volvo Penta OEM reference 854816, which replaced the previous set number 853633. The original OEM component references are 854824 for the front and 854832 for the rear; their previous numbers were 853613 and 853623, respectively. The current Solas configuration has four blades at the rear and must therefore not be confused with the original 3+3-bladed OEM version.
B3/OEM 854816 is cross-referenced in newer spare parts systems to J4 with item no. 21924264. J4 belongs to a different propeller series and is not part of this set. A, B, and J propellers must not be mixed on the same drive.
