This StingRay hydrofoil stabilizer in the Classic 2 series is the Junior model JR2-1 for outboard motors from 9.9–40 hp. It mounts to the motor's cavitation/anti-ventilation plate and provides an average lift level, helping smaller and lighter boats plane faster.
The hydrofoil can shorten time-to-plane by up to 50% and make it possible to keep the boat on plane at lower speeds. The reduced bow rise can improve forward visibility at low speeds, while the design stabilizes the boat and counteracts pitching, porpoising, chine walking, cavitation, and ventilation. It can also improve acceleration and reduce fuel consumption.
The model is made of black plastic and is delivered pre-assembled as a single unit consisting of two joined parts. The adjustable center section can be trimmed symmetrically in 6.35 mm (1/4") increments so the width can be adapted to narrower motors. The original screws are used to reassemble the parts after trimming.
The mounting is a 4-Drill type and requires four drilled holes in the motor's cavitation/anti-ventilation plate. The hydrofoil is placed on top of the plate as far forward as possible and must lie flat against the surface. The four main holes must be positioned at least approx. 9.5 mm from the outer edges of the plate. A 1/4" drill bit is used with the hydrofoil's existing holes as a drill guide.
The mounting hardware is included and consists of four nylon lock nuts, four rubber washers, two stainless 1/4-20 × 1.0" bolts, and two stainless 1/4-20 × 0.75" bolts. The long bolts are used in the rear holes and the short ones in the front. Installation requires a drill and a Phillips screwdriver, as well as a saw if the center section needs to be trimmed.
Classic 2 Junior is developed for smaller inflatables, tenders, and other smaller, lightweight boats. Before installation, the motor must be turned off, the kill switch disconnected, and the gear selector in neutral. After installation, check the security of the mounting and turn the propeller manually to ensure it does not touch the hydrofoil. The product is made in the USA and comes with a 1-year warranty to the original purchaser against significant defects in materials and workmanship.
