This top-mounted mechanical engine control from Ultraflex is model B501CH for single-engine operation. It features one dual-action lever that controls both throttle and gear shifting, and comes with a chrome-plated housing and chrome-plated lever. This variant is without a trim switch and without a manual neutral lock.
The first 30° of lever movement engages the gear, while the remaining movement regulates the throttle. Forward movement selects the forward gear, and rearward movement selects reverse. A push-button disengages the gear function, allowing the engine to be warmed up at increased RPM without engaging the gear. The lever friction can be adjusted, and on this version without a neutral lock, the lever's base angle can be set forward or backward.
The control box features a high-resistance ABS housing and a die-cast aluminum lever. The package includes the K59 cable connection kit as well as mounting hardware comprising four M5 × 30 screws, four M5 nuts, four washers, three circlips, one M5 × 12 screw, a plate, and a pin.
The B501CH is intended for use with Ultraflex mechanical control cables. C14 and MACH14 cables can be installed without an adapter kit. The included K59 kit is used for C2, C8, and MACHZero/MACH0 cables. C5, C16, and MACH5 cables require the K60 kit, item no. 45.100.17, while C36 and MACH36 cables require the K62 kit, item no. 45.100.12. C22 requires the K61 kit, and C4 is not compatible.
The control box is mounted on top of a console or dashboard with space for the full travel of the lever in both directions. The cables should be connected before the box is secured. Cable routing should be as direct as possible with few bends and a minimum bend radius of approximately 203 mm. Cables should not be secured closer than 500 mm from the cable exit. For outboard motor installations, approximately 120 cm of extra cable length is recommended for the engine's steering movement.
An X12 neutral safety switch, item no. 45.012.00, can be installed as an option, allowing the engine to be started only in neutral. EN ISO 11547 is relevant when this switch is installed. The control should be rinsed regularly with fresh water, checked for salt deposits and corrosion, and inspected for loose mounting nuts, worn cable jackets, and damaged cable ends.
