Ultraflex hydraulic helm pump UP39F is a front-mounted pump for hydraulic marine steering systems. It delivers 39 cm³ of hydraulic oil per helm revolution and is designed with seven pistons. The pump can be integrated into correctly sized steering systems with one or two steering stations.
A built-in lock and check valve prevents the steering system from drifting back and helps maintain the rudder position. The integrated pressure relief valve is set to 70 bar / 1000 PSI. The lock valve and shaft seal are accessible for replacement during service.
The pump features a cast iron rotor, ball-bearing piston cylinders, and a 3/4" stainless steel tapered helm shaft. Adjustable 90° fittings for 3/8" hydraulic hose are included. The maximum documented steering wheel diameter is 710 mm, while the maximum wheel dish is 152 mm.
The total axial length is 215 mm, and the diameter at the pump front/housing is Ø115 mm. The UP39F is mounted as standard on the front of the dashboard. Partially recessed mounting can be achieved using the square X64 flange, item no. 45.270.03 and manufacturer no. 40198C, or the round X57 flange, item no. 45.280.10 and manufacturer no. 39464P. When installing in an existing cutout, the current dimensional drawing should be checked before modifying the panel.
The UP39F is documented in combination with the inboard cylinders UC215-I and UC293-I. With the UC215-I, approximately 5.5 turns lock-to-lock are achieved with a documented maximum rudder torque of 111 kgm. With the UC293-I, the values are approximately 7.5 turns and 146.5 kgm. These performance data apply to the complete pump and cylinder combinations. For these systems, TU5/16 flexible hose or 3/8" copper tubing is used.
For adjusting the steering wheel angle, the X72 tilt mechanism, manufacturer no. 43140K, can be used. It has a tilt range of 60° and five locking positions. For dual steering station or autopilot installations, relevant connection kits are available, including the KIT OB-2S. The system is filled with Ultraflex OL150 hydraulic oil with a viscosity of VG15 and must be installed and bled according to the instructions for the chosen cylinder and hose configuration.
