Ultraflex hydraulic steering kit for inboard engines is a complete main component solution for a single steering station on boats with a specified hull length of 12 m. The system consists of a front-mounted UP39F helm pump and a balanced UC215-I hydraulic cylinder with a specified rudder torque of 111 kgm.
The combination of the UP39F and UC215-I provides 5.5 wheel turns from lock to lock. The balanced cylinder provides the same number of wheel turns from port to starboard and vice versa. The helm pump's built-in check valve holds the rudder steady, while the integrated relief valve is set to 70 bar / 1000 psi.
The UP39F helm pump has a displacement of 39 cm³ per revolution, seven pistons, and ball-bearing piston races. The pump is front-mounted in the dashboard and has a 3/4" tapered stainless steel shaft. Adjustable 90° fittings for 3/8" hoses are included with the pump, and the maximum steering wheel diameter is 710 mm.
The UC215-I is a balanced aluminum cylinder with a 215 cm³ hydraulic volume, a 228 mm stroke, and an output force of 673 kg. The cylinder bore is 40 mm, and the piston rod has a diameter of 20 mm. The rod end connects to the tiller arm via a ball joint, while the opposite end of the cylinder is secured to the boat with a support and mounting plate.
During installation, the cylinder's oil fittings must point upwards. The factory-oriented fittings on the cylinder housing must not be loosened or turned. The cylinder is secured with stainless steel M8 through-bolts, minimum A2-70 according to ISO 3506-1, with a tightening torque of 25 Nm. The ball joint's safety lock nut is tightened to 140 Nm, and the connection to the tiller arm is made according to ABYC P21. Hose connections are tightened to 20 Nm, and hoses must have a minimum bend radius of 250 mm.
Hydraulic hoses and hydraulic oil are not included and must be selected based on the required length and requirements of the installation. Compatible hose pairs can be found under item nos. 45.290.35–45.290.93 in lengths from 3.5 to 15 m. The UC215-I installation specifies OL150 ISO VG15, while hydraulic oil 45.027.01 is ISO VG22 and specified as suitable for hydraulic steering systems; always follow the specific installation manual when choosing oil. Service kit 45.291.11 is documented for the UP39F pump, among others.
The kit contains helm pump 45.280.03, model UP39F with manufacturer no. 42453C, and cylinder 45.284.03, model UC215-I with manufacturer no. 39433C. The cylinder marking refers to EN ISO 10592.
