This hydraulic connection kit for an auxiliary helm station or autopilot is the Ultraflex KIT OB-2S-5/16, model 43401M. The kit is used to connect an additional hydraulic helm station or a hydraulic autopilot pump to an existing marine steering system based on 5/16" hydraulic tubing.
The kit contains 10 m of TU5/16 tubing for the starboard and port hydraulic connections as well as 10 m of TU95 3/8" tubing for the compensation line between the helm pumps. The TU95 tubing must not be used as starboard or port tubing. Both hoses are made of nylon, and the documented minimum bend radius is 250 mm.
The 16 hydraulic fittings include 2 T-fittings, 8 reusable fittings for TU5/16, 4 straight fittings with 1/4" NPT inlet and 9/16-24 UNEF outlet, and 2 straight fittings with 1/8" NPT inlet and 9/16-24 UNEF outlet. A non-vented plug for the lower helm station is also included.
The kit is compatible with Ultraflex Hyco and Nautech as well as other hydraulic steering systems with 5/16" hydraulic tubing. It is expressly not intended for SilverSteer, MasterDrive, or Integra. The hydraulic cylinder, helm pump, and autopilot are not included.
When installing an additional helm station, it must be positioned lower than the main helm station. Only the upper helm station may use a vented filler cap, while the included non-vented plug must be installed at the lower helm station. An autopilot pump must likewise be mounted lower than the helm pump.
The system must be completely drained of oil before existing hydraulic connections are cut, and the drained oil must not be reused. The hoses must be cut cleanly with suitable tools, protected at bulkhead penetrations, and routed without contact with moving parts, heat sources, or chemical substances. The tightening torque is 12 Nm for 1/8" NPT fittings and 17.6 Nm for 1/4" NPT fittings; threaded connections are sealed with Loctite 542 or 545.
Depending on the configuration of the steering system, the installation may require an additional helm pump, a suitable main hose kit, steering wheel, and new hydraulic oil. Hydraulic oil with item no. 45.027.01 is documented as a related product.
