Soil in the boat, what does it mean and what do you do?
When you take shore power on board, you also take ground on board. If the boat is simply equipped with a charger or an electrical center with a few sockets, there is no problem. If you have installed a hot water tank, it is a different matter, as it must be connected to ground. Here you should install a galvanic isolator, as otherwise you risk being ground for the entire bridge. Ground will always find the best connection to ground, the current in the ground cable creeps around your boat and can cause galvanic corrosion on vital parts.
You can also make your own ground, this is done with a ground plane that is connected to the shore power inlet, it is important not to take ground on board via your shore power cable, then you are completely independent of the quality of ground from shore. This system is used in steel boats.
Importantly, when you take the boat ashore and want to connect power, it must be grounded.
A cheap solution to prevent galvanic corrosion, in connection with shore power ground, especially suitable for hot water tanks.
