This VION A 100 LD tide clock is an analog marine instrument that displays the tidal cycle and indicates whether the tide is rising or falling. The dial also shows the approximate position in relation to high tide and low tide.
The instrument follows the moon's average cycle with a lunar day of 24 hours, 50 minutes, and 30 seconds. The average tidal cycle is 12 hours, 25 minutes, and 15 seconds, corresponding to two tides per lunar day. It is a cycle-based tide clock and does not perform a direct electronic measurement of the local water level.
The housing is made of 0.5 mm AISI 304L stainless steel with a high-gloss polished finish. The front is made of PMMA/acrylic glass, and the instrument dial has blue and red details. The base diameter is 129 mm, the dial diameter is 106 mm, and the instrument has a projection of 40 mm from the mounting surface.
The included clip-on system is designed for wall or bulkhead mounting. The mounting base is attached first, after which the instrument is hooked onto the top attachment point and pressed into place in the remaining clips. This design makes it possible to remove the instrument without unscrewing the housing itself every time.
Setting is carried out according to a local tide table. At the precise time of high tide or low tide, the adjustment knob on the back is turned until the hand is at the corresponding position. For best accuracy, the instrument should be set or reset at a full moon and always reset after moving to a different geographical area.
The tide clock is intended for use on the Atlantic coast and the English Channel. The fixed average cycle cannot compensate for local coastal geometry, secondary tidal waves, weather, or changes in atmospheric pressure. The instrument should therefore be used as a guiding indicator in conjunction with local tide tables and current nautical charts, not as the sole basis for navigation or assessment of safe water depth.
