VION A80 MIC CHR high-sensitivity marine barometer is an analog aneroid barometer for monitoring atmospheric pressure and pressure changes on board. The instrument features an hPa/mbar scale and an amplified pointer movement, which makes changes in air pressure easier to read.
The Hi-Sensitive mechanism amplifies the pointer movement 1.5 times compared to a conventional barometer at the same pressure change. The measuring range is 975–1050 hPa, and the accuracy is ±5 hPa. In addition to the pressure pointer, the instrument has a manual reference pointer, which is set via the central knob in the front glass. Subsequent pressure changes can be read as the difference between the two pointers.
The barometer has a mirror-polished housing made of 0.5 mm AISI 304L stainless 18/10 steel and a PMMA front glass. The white dial has two-tone printing with blue and red pointers and markings. The instrument base measures 95 mm in diameter, the dial measures 80 mm in diameter, and the protrusion from the mounting surface is 40 mm.
The instrument is intended for wall or bulkhead mounting, and a quick-lock unit is included. The barometer is factory-calibrated but must be adjusted at the final installation site due to local differences in altitude above sea level. Calibration is performed with a small slotted screwdriver on the adjustment screw on the back and compared with the correct local atmospheric pressure.
During use, the reference pointer is set parallel to the pressure pointer. Falling pressure moves the pressure pointer counter-clockwise and typically indicates worsening weather, while rising pressure moves it clockwise and usually indicates better weather conditions. Rapid pressure changes should always be assessed in conjunction with local weather conditions.
The marine barometer is model A080 B in the VION A80 MIC CHR series and is manufactured in Denmark by Delite ApS. The product comes with a three-year warranty.
