This VIP Challenger MK4 100 N life jacket is the junior version for children with a body weight of 15–40 kg and a chest circumference of 64–74 cm. The orange life jacket has inherent buoyancy and is designed as a collar/chair model that is placed around the neck.
The buoyancy is provided by soft foam, so the vest does not require inflation or an activation mechanism. The compact design makes the vest easier to stow on board. The fit is secured with one back strap, one waist strap, and a crotch strap, which is documented specifically for the Junior/Child model. The waist strap is closed with a quick-release buckle.
The vest belongs to the Level 100 family according to EN ISO 12402-4. The designation 100 N describes the level classification, while the documented minimum buoyancy for this Junior/Child variant is 50 N. The vest is equipped with a whistle and reflective tape, making the user easier to locate in an emergency situation.
EU type certificate CE 717864 covers the VIP Challenger MK4 Child and specifies type-examination according to the PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425, Annex V, module B. The publicly available certificate had an expiry date of November 29, 2024, and the current product family is still specified according to EN ISO 12402-4. The associated certificate for production control is CE 714210, module C2.
The designation of the vest as mandatory equipment for sailing within 3 and 6 nautical miles is linked to Italian equipment requirements and should not be interpreted as a general Danish legal rule. Always check the applicable safety requirements for the vessel, waters, and user.
