This lever-operated splicing connector from the WAGO 221 series is a 5-conductor terminal for the quick, tool-free joining of solid, stranded, and fine-stranded copper conductors. The 221-415 model features five separate clamping points that are electrically connected to a common potential. The pack contains 25 splicing connectors.
Connection is achieved by flipping the orange lever up, inserting the stripped conductor fully to the mechanical stop, and closing the lever so that it lies flush with the housing. The WAGO CAGE CLAMP® technology holds the conductor in place, while the transparent housing allows for visual inspection of the conductor's position. Each clamping point has its own lever, allowing conductors to be connected and removed individually.
The connector is intended for solid and stranded copper conductors of 0.2–4 mm² and fine-stranded and flexible copper conductors of 0.14–4 mm². The rated conductor size is 4 mm², and the required strip length is 11 mm. Cable entry is from the side.
According to EN data, the rated voltage is 450 V and the rated current is 32 A. The rated surge voltage is 4 kV at overvoltage category II and pollution degree 2. According to UL 486C Use Group C, the rated data is 600 V and 20 A. The maximum ambient operating temperature is +85 °C, and the temperature rating is T85.
The housing is made of transparent polycarbonate with orange levers. A single connector measures 30 mm in width, 8.4 mm in height, and 18.6 mm in depth, and weighs 4 g. The insulating material has a flammability rating of UL 94 V-2.
The connector can be used loosely or placed in a compatible mounting carrier. Carriers 221-500, 221-500/000-006, and 221-500/000-053 support mounting on a DIN-35 rail or with screws. The 5-conductor connector is also compatible with carriers 221-505, 221-505/000-004, 221-515, 221-515/000-004, 221-525, and 221-525/000-004. The product can also be used in conjunction with the 207-4301 junction box, the 207-1332 Gelbox, and compatible jumpers 221-941 and 221-942 with their respective variants.
The splicing connector complies with standards including EN 60998 and is approved according to UL 486C and UL 467. Marine approvals include ABS, Lloyd’s Register, and PRS. The product is RoHS compliant and holds EU and UK declarations of conformity.
Installation must be performed by qualified electrical personnel while the circuit is de-energized and unloaded. The conductor type, cross-section, and strip length must be observed, and damaged or dirty components must not be used. The loose connector has no documented IP rating and therefore requires a suitable protective enclosure when the installation requires moisture protection.
