This WAGO 221 series lever connector is model 221-412 for tool-free connection of two copper conductors. It can be used with solid and stranded conductors of 0.2–4 mm² as well as fine-stranded and flexible conductors of 0.14–4 mm². The sales package contains 100 pieces.
The connection is made by stripping the conductor 11 mm, lifting the orange operating lever, inserting the conductor fully into the stop, and pushing the lever down so that it sits flush with the housing. The CAGE CLAMP® technology allows for connecting and disconnecting conductors without special tools and without pre-crimping wire end ferrules.
The transparent polycarbonate housing allows for visual inspection to ensure the conductor is inserted correctly. The connector has two connection points, one electrical potential, and side-entry wiring. It measures 13.1 mm in width, 8.3 mm in height, and 18.6 mm in depth. The housing fire rating is UL 94 V-2.
The rated data according to EN 60664 is 450 V and 32 A with a rated surge voltage of 4 kV. According to UL 486C, Use Group C, the rated data is 600 V and 20 A. The maximum ambient temperature is +85 °C, while the continuous service temperature is specified as 105 °C. The temperature marking according to EN 60998 is T85.
The connector can be used loose or placed in a compatible mounting carrier. Carrier 221-500, item no. 14.286.50, can be mounted on a DIN 35 rail or screwed directly onto a flat surface. Compatible carrier models also include 221-502, 221-512, and 221-522. For moisture protection, gel boxes 207-1331, 207-1332, and 207-1333 are available as separate accessories. Marine approvals do not constitute an IP rating for the unprotected connector.
Model 221-412 is approved by ABS, DNV GL, and Lloyd’s Register for relevant marine installations. It is also covered by, among others, cULus, ENEC 05, CCA/DEKRA, UL Listed, as well as EU and UK declarations of conformity and is RoHS compliant. Installation must be performed in a de-energized state by a qualified electrician in compliance with applicable regulations and using the correct conductor type, cross-section, and stripping length.
