This Whale AquaSource Clear inline fresh water filter is model WF1230 with 12 mm connections for fresh water systems in boats, caravans, and motorhomes. It is installed in the water line, typically under the sink, and improves the taste and smell of the water using a silver-impregnated carbon filter.
The filter has a capacity of up to 4,500 litres and must be replaced after one season or at most after one year, whichever comes first. The design is maintenance-free, so the entire filter is replaced at the end of the service interval. The silver treatment inhibits bacterial growth in the filter medium itself.
The WF1230 has barbed 12 mm inlet and outlet ports and can be connected directly to Whale Quick Connect 12 mm fittings. It can also be mounted on flexible hose with a 3/8″ / 10 mm internal diameter when the hose is properly secured with stainless steel hose clamps. The filter is intended for water only and must be used at a maximum working pressure of 4 bar / 60 psi.
The filter can be mounted both vertically and horizontally. The water flow direction must follow the arrow on the filter housing, and the included mounting clips and screws can be used for wall or bulkhead mounting. When using flexible hose, the hose clamp must be placed over the barbed port and not over the wider part of the filter housing.
Before use, the filter must be flushed until the water runs clear and loose carbon particles are removed. The preferred method is flushing at a fresh water tap for approximately 10 minutes. Alternatively, approximately 20 litres can be run through the filter, after which the system is allowed to rest before flushing a further 20 litres. The installation date can be noted in the filter's date field.
The filter must not be used as a bacterial filter or as a safety barrier for water of unknown bacteriological quality. It is intended to improve the taste and smell of a fresh water supply that is already fit for purpose. The product measures approximately 308 mm in length and has a maximum diameter of approximately 54 mm. In space-critical installations, the available space should be checked before mounting.
