This Whale Gulper diaphragm pump for toilet waste is an electric 12 V DC pump for emptying toilets as well as waste, septic, and holding tanks. Model BP2552B can be used with standard toilet systems and vacuum toilets and can transport both macerated and non-macerated toilet waste.
The pump is based on a large single diaphragm and a valve-based design without a filter that requires regular cleaning. The self-priming pump can handle mixtures of air and waste, withstands dry running under the described application, and is designed to resist clogging. The inlet, outlet, and pump head can be rotated, allowing the flow direction to be adapted to the installation.
The open flow rate is 18 l/min. The documented capacity is 17.5 l/min at 0 m suction lift and 1 m discharge head, and 16.5 l/min at 1 m suction lift and 1 m discharge head. Maximum suction lift and maximum discharge head are 3 m, while the total combination of suction and discharge head must also not exceed 3 m.
Both the inlet and outlet have 38 mm / 1½″ hose connections. A smooth, thick-walled, non-collapsible 38 mm hose must be used, which should be routed as short and straight as possible without low points where waste can accumulate. Each pump connection must be secured with two stainless steel hose clamps. If the discharge is located below the waterline, the installation requires a vented anti-siphon loop above the maximum heeled waterline.
The pump can be mounted horizontally or vertically. In case of vertical mounting, the pump head must be positioned below the motor housing. The mounting location must be dry, ventilated, and accessible for service, and the supporting mounting surface must be at least 19 mm thick. In marine installations, the pump is mounted on a bulkhead or a separate mounting plate and secured through the rubber feet.
The electrical connection is made via the pump's flat terminals with crimped cable lugs. The pump is polarity sensitive and requires at least a 1.5 mm² / 16 AWG cable and a recommended 10 A fuse. The specified current draw is 3.5 A; other documented measurements are 4 A during dry running, 6.5 A at 0 m suction lift and 1 m discharge head, and 7.1 A at 1 m suction lift and 1 m discharge head. The figures apply to different operating conditions.
The construction includes glass-fiber reinforced nylon, aluminum, bronze, acetal, EPDM, nitrile, Hypalon, Santoprene, stainless steel, and brass. The materials in direct contact with the fluid are glass-fiber reinforced nylon, Santoprene, and nitrile. The pump is ignition-protected according to ISO 8846/EN 28846 and has a maximum documented continuous operating time of 40 minutes.
The pump is intended for toilet waste as well as fresh and salt water within the described area of application. It must not be used for flammable liquids, diesel fuel, or chemicals without a separate suitability assessment. For maintenance, the system should be flushed and drained completely before winter lay-up; bleach and standard drain cleaners should be avoided.
Service kit AK1557 and part no. 50.113.99 contain the diaphragm, valves, and fasteners. Clamping ring kit AS1562 corresponds to part no. 16.155.98. The pump is also documented as an integrated 12 V pump in waste tanks with part nos. 50.143.12 and 50.143.62.
