This Whale Gulper toilet waste pump is an electric 24 V DC diaphragm pump for emptying marine toilets as well as blackwater and holding tanks. The pump can be connected directly to the toilet unit or the tank pump outlet and is also suitable for vacuum toilet systems.
The large single diaphragm and non-return valves allow for the pumping of both macerated and non-macerated toilet waste, as well as air and liquid mixtures. The design has no impeller or cutting mechanism and does not require an inlet strainer. The pump is self-priming up to 3 m and can run dry without damage.
The open flow capacity is up to 18 l/min. The performance is 17.5 l/min at 0 m suction lift and 1 m discharge head, and 16.5 l/min at 1 m suction lift and 1 m discharge head. The maximum suction lift and discharge head are 3 m each, while the combined suction and discharge head must not exceed 3 m. Both the inlet and outlet are designed for 38 mm (1½") hose.
The pump head can be rotated, allowing the flow direction and orientation of the connections to be adapted to the installation space. The pump can be mounted horizontally or vertically; for vertical mounting, the pump head must be positioned below the motor housing. The vibration-dampening rubber feet reduce the transfer of vibrations. The pump should be mounted in a dry, ventilated area above tank level on a bulkhead or a separate mounting plate at least 19 mm thick, with free access for service.
The electrical connection is polarity-sensitive and is made via spade terminals with crimped cable lugs. The power consumption is rated at 1.8 A, the recommended minimum cable cross-section is 1.5 mm², and a 5 A fuse is used. An inline fuse holder is pre-installed. The maximum continuous operation is 40 minutes, and the noise level is 72 dB.
Use a smooth, thick-walled, and non-collapsible 38 mm hose, and keep the hose run as short and straight as possible. Use two stainless steel hose clamps at each pump connection. If the outlet is below the waterline, the installation must be secured with a properly vented siphon breaker or anti-siphon loop. The pump must not be used for flammable liquids, diesel, or chemicals and must not be installed directly in-line with a deck fitting for external pump-out.
The diaphragm and valves are accessible for service, and the diaphragm can be serviced without first removing the valves. The manufacturer number is BP2554B. Service kit AK1557 contains the diaphragm, valves, and fasteners, while AS1562 is a clamp ring kit. Maintenance set item no. 50.113.99 is documented as an accessory for the pump. DV5606 is a compatible 1½" diverter valve.
The pump is CE-marked and ignition-protected according to ISO 8846. The construction includes materials such as glass-reinforced nylon, aluminum, bronze, EPDM, nitrile, Hypalon, acetal, stainless steel, and brass. Materials in contact with the medium are glass-reinforced nylon, Santoprene, and nitrile.
